Alvarez Sets the Tone

Yordan Alvarez provided the early offensive spark for the Houston Astros, launching his 25th home run of the season in the first inning. The blast traveled 407 feet to right center, giving Cleveland’s pitching staff its first deficit of the game. The shot marked the first run of the contest, establishing a 1-0 lead for the Guardians in the top of the inning before Houston took the field.

Astros Seize Lead in Fourth

The Astros turned the tables in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker reached base, setting the stage for Nathaniel Lowe to deliver the go-ahead hit. Lowe singled to center field, driving in Alvarez to extend Houston’s advantage to 2-1. The run proved crucial, as it would be the final score of the game for the home team.

Guardians Answer in Fifth

Cleveland attempted to rally in the fifth inning. With two outs, Andres Gimenez singled to right field, advancing to second base. He later scored on a groundout by Jose Ramirez, cutting the Astros’ lead to 2-1. The run kept the Guardians within striking distance, but the deficit held firm as the game moved into the final innings.

Pitching Decides the Outcome

Kai-Wei Teng earned the win for Houston, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts. He was supported by a bullpen trio that kept the Guardians off the board. Steven Okert and Bryan King each pitched a scoreless inning, with Okert recording three strikeouts and King adding one. Josh Hader closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two batters to secure the save.

For Cleveland, Slade Cecconi took the loss after pitching six innings. He allowed two earned runs on six hits, walking two batters while striking out one. Colin Holderman and Hunter Gaddis pitched the final two innings without allowing any further runs, combining for two strikeouts.

The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Houston Astros. The game drew an attendance of 36,807 at Daikin Park. The Astros improved their record to 37-42, while the Guardians fell to 41-37.
