The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a one-year contract with Von Miller, a two-time Super Bowl champion and eight-time Pro Bowler, to strengthen their defense. Miller, who has an impressive total of 136.5 sacks throughout his 14-year career, achieved 9.0 sacks last season while with Washington.
However, the signing has faced criticism from some analysts. Bryan Broaddus, a former Cowboys scout now working as an analyst for 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, has labeled the move as potentially harmful and low-impact. He highlighted concerns regarding Miller's recent performance, suggesting that if he were not a prominent name, he might not have been signed based on his latest game footage.
Broaddus noted that Miller seems to lack the necessary speed and finishing ability that are crucial for a top-tier edge rusher. He proposed that the Cowboys might find more value in James Houston, who could be pushed out of the rotation. Pro Football Focus ranked Miller at 66th among 119 edge rushers last season, while Houston was rated 49th.
In his defense, Miller stressed that he can contribute significantly beyond just his playing time. During his introductory press conference, he expressed confidence in his ability to mentor younger players, stating, "If there is a Hall of Fame for that, I am going to the Hall of Fame." The overall impact of Miller's signing on the team remains to be determined.
