Baylor will start Nate Bennett in the first college start of his career against Prairie View A&M, Pete Thamel reported. DJ Lagway has been ruled out after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the Bears' 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn.
Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against Auburn. He continued playing despite the ankle injury. Earlier in the week, coach Dave Aranda called Lagway day to day, while On3 reported that Lagway had been trying to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for Week 2.
Baylor fell to 0-1 after scoring a touchdown in the closing seconds against Auburn and missing the ensuing two-point try that would have produced a victory. The source said it was unclear whether Lagway's condition influenced the decision. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend, followed by its Big 12 opener against Colorado on Sept. 26.
No additional information about Lagway's recovery timeline was provided.
