Celina firefighters would get a second set of protective bunker gear, and the city's wastewater crews a truck that can pump out lift stations, under a batch of equipment purchases on the City Council's consent agenda Tuesday.
Fire department
Fire Chief Shawn White's memo asks for an open purchase order of up to $280,000 with Casco Industries for protective gear this budget year. The main purchase is a second set of bunker gear for department personnel.
The memo ties that to cancer prevention: with a spare set, firefighters can take contaminated gear out of service to be cleaned while still having clean gear for the next call. The department expects to buy 30 to 40 sets, with final numbers depending on staffing and sizing.
A separate item, up to $628,904, replaces three fire vehicles. Most of that, $478,425, is for a medic unit to replace a 10-year-old ambulance, with delivery estimated at 13 months. The rest covers a Chevrolet Tahoe and its outfitting for a battalion unit and a truck replacing a 5-year-old fire administration vehicle.
