Early Lead Builds
The Chicago White Sox established a significant advantage in the bottom of the second inning at Rate Field. B. Montgomery drew a walk and scored on a Doyle single, giving the home team a 2-0 lead. The Rangers responded in the top of the third when Pederson hit a two-run homer to right center, tying the game at 2-2. However, the momentum shifted back to Chicago in the fourth. Vargas and Antonacci each scored on singles, extending the White Sox lead to 4-2.
Home Run Power
The fifth inning proved to be the turning point. Tristan Peters homered to right field, driving in Rogers and adding two more runs to the total. The offensive barrage continued in the sixth when Antonacci singled to left, scoring Vargas. The inning concluded with Doyle hitting a three-run homer to left center, bringing Murakami and B. Montgomery home and pushing the score to 10-2. The Rangers managed to score twice in the seventh inning, with Duran’s single allowing Langford and Nimmo to cross the plate, but the deficit was already insurmountable.
Pitching Performance
The Texas Rangers pitching staff struggled to contain the Chicago offense. MacKenzie Gore pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while walking four batters and striking out four. He took the loss, dropping to a 7-10 record. Relievers Chase Silseth, Robby Ahlstrom, Peyton Gray, and Jakob Junis combined to pitch the remainder of the game. Silseth pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run with one walk. Ahlstrom pitched one inning, allowing four hits and five earned runs with one walk. Gray pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs with one strikeout. Junis pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no earned runs with one strikeout.
Home Staff
Sean Burke started for the White Sox, pitching three innings. He allowed two hits and two earned runs while issuing eight walks and striking out three batters. Sean Newcomb followed, pitching three scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and no earned runs with one strikeout. Newcomb earned the win, improving to a 2-3 record. Jonathan Cannon closed the game, pitching three innings. He allowed four hits and two earned runs while walking two batters and striking out four. Cannon recorded the save, his first of the season.
