Rafaela, Contreras Lead Red Sox Past Rangers 10-1

Boston’s trio of Rafaela, Contreras, and Abreu drove in nine runs as the Red Sox defeated the Rangers 10-1 at Fenway Park on Friday.

Rafaela Powers Boston Offense

The Boston Red Sox offense exploded for ten runs, led by Chasidi Rafaela and Seby Zavala Contreras, to defeat the Texas Rangers 10-1 at Fenway Park on Friday. Rafaela recorded a double and a home run, while Contreras added a home run and a double. Adolis Garcia Abreu also contributed significantly with a double and a home run. The victory improved Boston’s record to 28-39, while the Rangers fell to 34-35.

Early Exchange and Dominant Fifth

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning when Langford singled to left field, allowing Pederson to score and placing Jung in scoring position. Rafaela answered for Boston in the same frame, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Abreu. Contreras then tied the game with a 379-foot home run to center field.

The game shifted dramatically in the fifth inning. Rafaela doubled to left, and Gasper scored. Abreu followed with a double, allowing Rafaela to cross the plate. Contreras reached on an infield single to third, and Abreu scored on a throwing error by third baseman Jung. Durbin then drove in Contreras with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Boston a 6-1 lead.

Late Inning Barrage

Abreu extended the Red Sox lead in the seventh inning with a 421-foot home run to center field. The scoring continued in the eighth inning when Rafaela hit a 374-foot home run to left center, bringing Wong home. Contreras completed the scoring with a double to center, allowing Abreu to score. The final run of the game came on the double, making the score 10-1.

Pitching Performance

Sonny Gray earned the win for Boston, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out seven batters. He was supported by Tyron Guerrero, Danny Coulombe, and Tommy Kahnle, who each pitched one scoreless inning. Gray’s record improved to 8-1.

For the Rangers, Jack Leiter took the loss after five innings of work. Leiter allowed five earned runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out three batters. Cal Quantrill pitched two innings, allowing one earned run on one hit. Luis Curvelo pitched one inning, allowing three earned runs on three hits. The Rangers’ record dropped to 34-35 following the defeat.
