DeGrom's Dominant Start Sets the Tone
Jacob deGrom anchored the Texas Rangers' pitching staff with a six-inning performance that kept the Washington Nationals off the board. The veteran left-hander retired 15 of the first 16 batters he faced, striking out 10 while allowing only one hit and walking one batter. DeGrom did not allow a single earned run during his outing, earning the win to improve his record to 9-8.
His command was evident early, as the Nationals managed just four hits against him over the first five innings, with only one of those hits resulting in a baserunner who did not reach on an error or hit.
Late-Inning Scoring Decides the Game
The Rangers took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Corey Seager connected with a home run to left center field. The ball traveled 382 feet, giving Texas a 1-0 advantage. The game remained tight until the eighth inning, when the Rangers added their second run.
Juan Soto reached base, and later in the frame, Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Duran to score and extend the lead to 2-0. The Nationals’ offense was stifled throughout the contest, managing only four total hits against the Rangers' rotation.
