George Odum is set for his second practice squad elevation of the season after Houston added him for its game against Cincinnati. The move comes with Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship healthy, as the Texans seek Odum’s contributions on special teams.
Odum played 71% of Houston’s special teams snaps against Buffalo and made one tackle in the Texans’ 36-31 loss. Head coach DeMeco Ryans previously highlighted Odum’s playmaking during the preseason. Pro Football Focus placed him 26th among 29 Houston special teams players for that game, while noting its overall grade does not reflect performance in every phase.
The ninth-year NFL player has been with Indianapolis and San Francisco, earning one All-Pro honor with each team. One report lists his career totals as 205 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Other listed figures show 209 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, along with 12 starts across 109 games.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported the latest elevation on Sept. 19. Houston can elevate Odum one more time under the current arrangement, with the Colts scheduled for Week 3. After that game, the Texans would need to add him to the 53-man roster or use another option.
