Baylor's athletic director, Doug McNamee, has stated that there is no specific win total required for head coach Dave Aranda to keep his position beyond the 2026 season. Instead, McNamee highlighted the importance of building momentum and increasing support for the football program.

In comments reported by CBS Sports college football writer Shehan Jeyarajah, McNamee said, "It’s not about the numbers. It’s the momentum; it’s the feel, and it’s the vibe around the program." This statement clarifies the expectations for Aranda as he enters his seventh season at Baylor.

While McNamee did not set an ultimatum, he stressed the need for a competitive environment in the Big 12 and adapting to name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

McNamee urged supporters to engage more actively with the program, whether by attending games or contributing to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He remarked, "We need greater commitment and investment from our constituency."

Aranda's current record at Baylor stands at 36-37, following a successful 2021 season, but the team has faced challenges with a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the last four years. As Baylor prepares for the upcoming season, which starts on September 5 against Auburn, McNamee emphasized the need for the program to show progress and foster belief to secure continued support.
