Baylor junior quarterback DJ Lagway is doubtful for the team’s Week 3 meeting with Louisiana Tech after an ankle sprain kept him out of the win over Prairie View A&M. Nate Bennett is expected to start if Lagway is unavailable.
Lagway sustained the injury in Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn after transferring from Florida and playing in that game. Coach Dave Aranda said Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough, with his status to be judged by his practice work.
The injury is not expected to sideline him for a month or more, though his availability for an emergency against Louisiana Tech has not been determined. On3’s Pete Nakos reported Baylor hopes Lagway can return for next Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Colorado.
Bennett made his first start against Prairie View A&M. He completed 26 throws on 34 attempts, producing 314 yards and three touchdown passes. He added 13 rushing yards and a touchdown, but also had two interceptions. Edward Griffin is listed behind Bennett on Baylor’s depth chart, with Quinn Murphy third at quarterback.
