The Houston Cougars have strengthened their defense by signing safety Myles Rowser, who previously played for the Arizona State Sun Devils. This move comes in light of new NCAA eligibility regulations that permit players from the 2022 class, who did not redshirt or enter the NFL, to gain an extra year of eligibility.
Rowser, who did not redshirt his freshman year, participated in nine games with the Campbell Camels and attended a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks without signing a professional contract. His collegiate journey includes time at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 to 2025.
In his career, Rowser has amassed 295 total tackles, which includes 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 16 passes defended, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
During the 2025 season, he played in every game for Arizona State, achieving a personal best of 84 tackles, four tackles for loss, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery, which earned him a spot on the All-Big 12 Third Team.
The Cougars already have a solid safety lineup, featuring veterans Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who recorded 71 and 48 tackles last season, respectively. They also added Tulane safety Javion White, who had 50 tackles last year. Rowser's addition may prompt the Cougars to adjust their lineup, potentially moving one of their safeties to the nickel corner position, enhancing their competitiveness in the Big 12.
