Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is unlikely to play against Louisiana Tech as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in the Bears’ 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. He remained in that game, throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns, while also being intercepted once. His ankle was wrapped afterward.

Lagway missed Baylor’s 44-3 win over Prairie View A&M, allowing Nate Bennett to make his first start in place of him. Bennett completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards, produced three touchdown passes and added a rushing score. He could start again Saturday because Lagway is considered doubtful.

Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway felt good at Sunday’s practice, and the quarterback was expected to take part in the team’s work during the week. On3 reporter Pete Nakos reported that Lagway is expected to be ready for Baylor’s Big 12 opener against Colorado on Sept. 26.

Baylor is monitoring the recovery carefully before playing Louisiana Tech, while Colorado is set to play Northwestern ahead of its trip to Baylor. The road game is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT and could feature Lagway against Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis.
