The Houston Texans have finalized a trade with the New England Patriots to acquire wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. In exchange, the Texans have given up a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed. This move comes after the Texans' second-year receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during practice, creating a need for additional depth at the position.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the trade after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, emphasizing Boutte's potential to impact the team's offense. Ryans referred to Boutte as a significant addition, especially due to Higgins' injury. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," he said, highlighting Boutte's capability to make plays and his previous experience against the Texans.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown consistent performance while with the Patriots. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 receptions totaling 551 yards and six touchdowns, contributing to the Patriots' Super Bowl run.
This achievement was part of his second straight season with more than 30 catches and over 500 yards, while also doubling his touchdown total from the previous year.
The Texans are optimistic that Boutte will help fill the gap left by Higgins, as he is expected to work alongside Nico Collins as an outside receiver capable of making impactful plays. Ryans expressed hope for Boutte's growth, noting his youth and potential for further development in the league.
