Texas Tech has secured its final non-conference opponent for the 2030 football season by agreeing to host Texas State on September 14 of that year. According to a contract obtained via open-records request and reported by FBSchedules.com, the university is obligated to pay the Bobcats a guarantee of $1.2 million.
This addition rounds out the Red Raiders' schedule for that specific year. The team will begin the season on August 31 against Arkansas in Las Vegas before hosting Fresno State one week prior to the Texas State contest. Despite filling the 2030 slot, the program still needs to secure non-conference opponents for 2027, 2028, and 2029.
The scheduling gaps result from recent contract terminations. Mississippi State canceled a two-game series for 2028 and 2029 without penalty due to an SEC model change. North Carolina State exercised a buyout for a 2027 game in Lubbock, while Texas Tech bought out a 2027 road game against North Texas.
The Red Raiders currently have two non-conference home games scheduled for each of the years 2027 through 2029. Financial guarantees for these matchups range from $300,000 to $1 million. Other long-term adjustments include a rescheduled home game against Arkansas in 2034 and moving a 2033 road game at Oregon from its original 2024 date.
