The Dallas Cowboys are turning to rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham to call the defense in their Week 2 NFC East matchup with the Washington Commanders, according to sportingnews.com. Barham will wear the green dot Sunday, a responsibility confirmed by coach Brian Schottenheimer.

The assignment follows Dallas’ 28-point loss to the New York Giants in Week 1, when the Cowboys struggled to contain the Giants’ offense. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker is making the communication change as Dallas prepares to face Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Barham was selected by Dallas in the third round out of Michigan. The rookie’s handling of the defensive role, along with the Cowboys’ offensive performance against Washington’s defense, are among the developments entering the matchup. Dallas and Washington both opened the season with losses to division opponents.
