Suns withstand late push

The San Antonio Spurs made their strongest push in the fourth quarter, but the Phoenix Suns held on for a 102-98 victory Saturday at Mortgage Matchup Center. Luke Kennard led Phoenix with 20 points as the Suns absorbed a 25-17 final-period edge by San Antonio.

Phoenix entered the fourth quarter with an 85-73 lead and extended it to 98-86 before the Spurs closed within four. Maliq Brown made 3-pointers that cut the margin to 102-93 and 102-98, but Phoenix finished with the four-point victory.

Phoenix builds early advantage

The Suns established control in the opening period, outscoring San Antonio 35-25. Kennard made three 3-pointers in the quarter and also added a 16-foot pullup jump shot, while Jalen Green made two 3-pointers and finished with five assists for Phoenix.

San Antonio trimmed the gap in the second quarter, winning that period 26-23. Phoenix still took a 58-51 lead into halftime. Khaman Maluach contributed 15 rebounds for the Suns, and Dylan Harper paced the Spurs with 15 points.

Third-quarter separation
