Plano is about 22 miles south of Celina. Collin County commissioners have approved a higher property tax rate for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, along with the county budget. The 4-1 vote took place Sept. 14, with County Judge Chris Hill casting the lone vote against it.

The rate will be approximately 15.1 cents for every $100 of taxable home value, up from about 14.9 cents. County budget documents characterize the change as 1.39%, the first rate increase for county homeowners since 1993.

The county's projected median home value is $517,911 for the upcoming fiscal year, compared with $480,773 previously. At the earlier rate, and with a 5% homestead exemption, taxes on a home at the former median value would have totaled $682.10. Under the new rate and updated median value, the estimated amount is $744.98, a difference of $62.88, the budget documents state.
