Landon Amrhein, an 18-year-old center from Celina, Texas, was not selected during the 2026 NHL Draft held in Buffalo over the weekend. The slide out of the seventh round was unexpected, as EliteProspects.com had ranked him as high as 54th overall heading into the event.

Amrhein impressed scouts at the NHL Scouting Combine, where he described his game as that of a two-way center who utilizes his size, playmaking skills, and hockey intelligence. Standing six-foot-five and weighing 192 pounds, he played for the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League last season, recording 31 points in 64 games.

The Dallas Stars have the opportunity to sign Amrhein as an undrafted free agent. He previously played in the Dallas Stars Elite AAA Program from ages 13 to 16 before joining the U.S. National Team Development Program. The organization stated that Amrhein was not focused on a specific destination but wanted a team that believed in him. Further details regarding his signing status remain unclear.
