Celina homeowners are restoring their properties after a rapid storm damaged structures in the area. Jack Engelhart, whose house sustained damage early Friday, described the event as lasting roughly ten minutes. He noted that while the rain ceased quickly, the aftermath was unexpected when he returned from work.
A large section of a roof from an 1800s brick building was torn away and fell onto a neighboring front porch. Chad Wilrath of the Mercer County EMA observed neighbors assisting with debris removal, including tree branches. Wilrath and National Weather Service officials are investigating whether a tornado or straight-line winds caused the destruction.
The storm also brought down large power transmission poles in an industrial zone. Crews are working to restore electricity, with repairs expected by Saturday night. The American Red Cross is assisting Engelhart with temporary housing while his home undergoes repairs. Officials emphasized the importance of heeding severe weather warnings due to the short notice often provided for such events.
