A North Texas woman has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison for leaving her infant child inside a vehicle in Frisco. Vanessa Esquivel, 27, was found guilty by a jury after prosecutors presented evidence that she abandoned her 15-month-old son in a car outside her place of employment.
Frisco police reported that the incident occurred in August. Investigators stated that Esquivel left the child in the vehicle for more than two hours. At the time, the car’s air conditioning was not functioning. Outside temperatures reached at least 95 degrees during that period.
The conviction follows a trial where the state argued that Esquivel’s actions directly led to the child’s death. The court imposed the 25-year prison term upon her guilty verdict. Frisco is located approximately 12 miles south of Celina.
Details regarding the specific circumstances that led to the child being left in the car were not provided in the initial reports. Further information about the legal proceedings or any appeals is not yet clear.
