A prolonged hostage situation in a Providence Village neighborhood near Aubrey, Texas, entered its second day on Tuesday as law enforcement continued negotiations with a suspect who threatened to kill two women if officers approached the residence.
The incident began shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday when a man dialed 911 to report that he was holding two females captive inside his home. He explicitly warned responding officers not to come near the property. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken window at the location and established a perimeter while attempting to contact the suspect, though initial efforts to reestablish communication were unsuccessful.
Aubrey Police Chief Richard Brooks stated that the suspect’s threats necessitated additional support. Special operations units from neighboring agencies were dispatched to the scene, and negotiators were deployed to facilitate a peaceful resolution. The situation intensified when a major development occurred just after 1 a.m. Tuesday: a juvenile girl was released from the home. Investigators noted that she provided critical information regarding the events inside, which prompted officials to call in further resources, including SWAT teams and federal negotiators.
Chief Brooks confirmed that the FBI hostage negotiation team is supporting local efforts. By 3 p.m. Tuesday, the standoff was still ongoing, with police continuing to bring in additional law enforcement support and keeping medics on standby at the scene. The primary objective remains the safe resolution of the incident.
Residents in the immediate area were ordered to shelter in place for the duration of the event. Raishaun Stadeker, a neighbor who moved into the community seven months ago, described the atmosphere as frightening. She noted that many residents are older and expressed anxiety over the heavy police presence and visible weapons. As a single parent, Stadeker said she remained awake throughout the night, listening for any signs of violence.
