First: the regular-season opener, Friday, Oct. 2, against the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center, announced on NHL.com/stars and timed at 7:00 p.m. CT by Yahoo Sports. Second: the Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Saturday, Feb. 20, against the Vegas Golden Knights at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, also at 7 p.m. CT and on ABC, per the same Stars schedule release.
Between those pillars sits the actual work - erasing a Western Conference First Round loss to Minnesota after years of deeper runs.
What last spring took away
NHL.com's Tracey Myers summarized the recent arc: conference final appearances in 2023, 2024, and 2025, then a first-round exit in 2026 despite a 50-20-12 regular season and a second-place Central finish. The roster returning under Glen Gulutzan is largely the same because, Myers wrote, free agency was quiet and the bet is internal.
Jim Nill, in NHL.com's 32-in-32 piece, said Robertson's one-year, $12 million signing left the team "pretty well set," even after losing Mavrik Bourque to salary-cap reality. Nill also argued a healthier Hintz and Seguin make Dallas better than the injured group that played last postseason - management tone that northern suburbs will test against October results.
October's home-heavy runway
The Stars' schedule release counted nine October home games and a six-game homestand from Oct. 20-31. The opener launches a back-to-back with Nashville on Oct. 3. That early density is how a Cup favorite builds rhythm - or how early special-teams cracks get exposed under Gulutzan's second-year microscope.
Myers flagged the penalty kill (80.3%, 13th) as an area that could be better while praising goals-against rate, goals for, and power-play percentage.
Why the outdoor game is more than a postcard
An AT&T Stadium date against Vegas in February is a commercial spectacle and a measuring stick against a Western heavyweight. For Celina fans who already budget for AAC trips, it is also a once-a-season geography shift toward Arlington.
