The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers 6-3 on Wednesday, September 23, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The game featured a pivotal shift in the fourth inning when fielding mistakes allowed the visiting New York squad to take a 3-1 lead.

That momentum carried them through the rest of the contest, as they added runs in the sixth and seventh innings to close out the win.

Scoring Sequence

New York took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when Juan Soto singled to center, allowing Francisco Alvarez to score. Texas tied the game at 1-1 later in the same frame when Jung doubled to right, scoring Jansen. The fourth inning proved decisive for the Mets.

Benge scored on an error, while Alvarez advanced safely on two separate fielding errors by right fielder Nimmo. Díaz then hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Nimmo and moving Foscue to second and Duran to third. Langford followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Duran and moving Foscue to third.

In the sixth inning, Alvarez doubled to center, scoring Semien and Benge to extend the lead to 4-3. Torrens then hit a sacrifice fly to first, allowing Alvarez to score and making it 5-3. The final run came in the seventh when Benge doubled to right, scoring Baty to seal the 6-3 victory. There were no home runs hit by either team during the game.

Pitching and Records

Sean Manaea earned the win for the Mets, pitching six innings with three hits, two earned runs, two walks, and nine strikeouts. He was followed by Nate Lavender, Dedniel Nunez, and Kodai Senga, each pitching one inning without allowing hits or earned runs. Senga recorded the save with two strikeouts.

For the Rangers, MacKenzie Gore started, pitching five innings with four hits, one earned run, one walk, and two strikeouts. Nathan Eovaldi took the loss, pitching one inning with three hits, three earned runs, one walk, and no strikeouts. Robert Garcia, Jakob Junis, and Peyton Gray finished the game for Texas.

The Mets improved their record to 72-85, while the Rangers fell to 78-79. Attendance at Globe Life Field was 24,191.
