Two home runs by Austin Gelof and two more by Josh Butler highlighted a five-run offensive effort that propelled the Athletics to a 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. The win improved the Athletics' record to 49-75, while the Rangers fell to 61-64.
Gelof’s blast in the seventh inning provided the decisive run, driving in one teammate with a shot to right-center field that traveled 403 feet. Butler had earlier contributed significantly with two home runs, including a two-run homer in the second inning and a solo shot in the eighth frame that extended the lead.
Game Flow
The Rangers struck first when Nathaniel Lowe homered to right center in the top of the second inning. However, the Athletics quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning. Butler connected for a two-run homer to right, putting Texas ahead 2-1 after Burger scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Nimmo in the third.
The game remained tight until Gelof’s seventh-inning home run broke the tie. White added insurance in the eighth with a solo home run to center field.
Pitching Details
Jacob Lopez earned the win for the Athletics, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out six batters. He was supported by Luis Medina, who pitched one scoreless inning with two strikeouts, Elvis Alvarado, who recorded a hit in his 0.2-inning relief appearance, and Drew Rom, who retired the side in order with one strikeout.
