Duran decides it in the ninth

Duran’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth was the decisive swing in the Texas Rangers’ 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field. Burger scored on the hit, and Seager moved to third as Texas answered after San Francisco had tied the game in the top of the inning.

Duran finished with four RBIs, all on run-scoring hits, and Texas won in front of 26,959.

Early Texas runs, then Basabe answers

Texas took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nimmo doubled to right to score Pederson and move Seager to third. Duran followed with a single to right that brought in Seager and sent Nimmo to third.

San Francisco’s first runs came in the top of the seventh. Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot drive, with Gilbert aboard to tie the game at 2. It was the only home run of the game.

Back-and-forth finish

The Rangers moved back ahead in the bottom of the eighth. Duran doubled to right, scoring Langford and Seager, with Nimmo advancing to third, and Texas led 4-2.

The Giants tied it in the top of the ninth when Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray. Texas then set the final margin in the bottom half on Duran’s ground-rule double, with Burger scoring for the 5-4 final.

Pitching and records

MacKenzie Gore gave Texas six innings, allowing three hits, no earned runs and three walks while striking out four. Chase Silseth allowed one hit, two earned runs and one walk in two-thirds of an inning and was charged with his fourth blown save.

Robby Ahlstrom struck out two in one scoreless inning, Peyton Gray struck out one in one-third of a scoreless inning, and Jacob Latz got the win despite a blown save, allowing two hits, one earned run and one walk with one strikeout in one inning.

For San Francisco, Blade Tidwell allowed six hits, two earned runs and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Dylan Smith took the loss, falling to 0-4 after allowing two hits, one earned run and one walk with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

Texas is 56-58. San Francisco is 48-66.
