Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murder Tuesday, June 9, in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, according to CBS Texas.
CBS Texas reported that Metcalf was killed April 2, 2025, during a Frisco ISD track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. Anthony, now 19, had been charged in the killing.
The trial centered on self-defense. Prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation. Defense attorneys argued Anthony acted in self-defense.
The jury returned a guilty verdict on the murder charge.
Sentencing phase
CBS Texas reported that the case now moves to sentencing. The punishment range for murder is five to 99 years or life in prison, according to the station.
