The Dallas Cowboys completed their roster adjustments this weekend to comply with the NFL's 53-player limit, resulting in important player cuts. Among those released were second-year running back Jaydon Blue and former second-round draft choice Sam Williams. In an unexpected decision, the team also let go of quarterback Joe Milton III, who had performed well during the preseason.
After these roster changes, the Cowboys claimed running back Emari Demercado from waivers and added offensive tackle Wanya Morris to their lineup. Many of the released players were retained on the practice squad, which now features a blend of rookies and seasoned players.
The practice squad includes Israel Abanikanda (RB), Jordan Hudson (WR), Anthony Smith (WR), Michael Trigg (TE), Mitch Van Vooren, Marcellus Johnson (OT), Wanya Morris (OT), Nick Leverett (G/C), Tommy Dunn (DT), Elijah Garcia (DT), Adedayo Odeleye (DT), Isaiah Land (EDGE), Justin Barron (LB), Curtis Robinson (LB), Derion Kendrick (CB), and Reddy Steward (CB).
Several players made a mark during the preseason, including wide receiver Jordan Hudson, who showcased his catching ability, and defensive tackle Tommy Dunn, noted for his strong run defense. Linebacker Justin Barron, who transitioned from safety, excelled in coverage, while Curtis Robinson was effective on special teams. Reddy Steward also demonstrated reliability in the defensive backfield.
Some players who were cut found new opportunities elsewhere. Julius Wood was picked up by the Miami Dolphins, while guard Trevor Keegan joined the Minnesota Vikings. Sam Williams, who had 8.5 sacks in his first two seasons, signed with the Cleveland Browns after facing challenges following ACL surgery.
