The Dallas Cowboys have completed their 53-man roster, making significant cuts that have drawn attention. Joe Milton III, who was the team's No. 2 quarterback during the 2025 season, was among those let go despite showing potential in preseason games.

Additionally, fifth-round draft pick Jaydon Blue was released after not meeting the expectations of the coaching staff and has since joined the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer described the process of making these cuts as challenging, highlighting the human aspect involved. He stated that the team's vision must take priority, indicating a shift from previous management approaches that often prioritized talent. Schottenheimer has been direct in his assessments of players, leading to Malik Davis being named the RB2 after demonstrating more reliability than others like Phil Mafah.

In a notable decision, Schottenheimer chose Sam Howell as the backup quarterback, favoring Howell's reliability over Milton. Cowboys insider Bobby Belt noted that Milton's focus may have been misaligned, which could have contributed to his release.

On defense, the team has seen a significant transformation under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker. The revamped unit will adopt a collaborative strategy, with Quinnen Williams and other players like Kenny Clark and Otito Ogbonnia expected to play key roles.

Caleb Downs is set to lead the secondary, which includes new players Jalen Thompson and Cobie Durant, as the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season with a roster that aligns with Schottenheimer's vision.
