Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after a challenging season at the University of Florida, where he ended with a 4-8 record. Lagway was initially seen as a promising player, ranked No. 3 in his class, and took over as the starter after Graham Mertz's injury.
He led the Gators to a 5-1 record in the last six games of the previous season, achieving notable wins against ranked opponents.
However, Lagway's second season did not meet expectations, marred by injuries and a significant loss to South Florida, which marked Florida's first defeat to the Bulls. A particularly tough game against LSU saw Lagway throw five interceptions, contributing to the team's disappointing overall performance and the subsequent firing of head coach Billy Napier.
Looking for a fresh start, Lagway entered the Transfer Portal and has now signed with Baylor, where he will play under head coach Dave Aranda. Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, commented on Lagway's transfer, suggesting that a new environment could help him thrive.
Lagway's debut with the Bears will come against Auburn at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a crucial game for both him and Coach Aranda as they aim to improve from last season's struggles.
