Texas Tech is set to begin its season Nov. 2 at United Supermarkets Arena with three players still involved in eligibility cases. Jamichael Stillwell, Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell remain on the active roster after pursuing temporary injunctions.
Williams is returning after playing for NC State in 2025-26. He previously spent two seasons with the Red Raiders and helped them reach the Elite Eight in 2024-25. Coach Grant McCasland called Williams’ return an unusual process and said Williams ultimately asked if a scholarship could be held for him.
Williams is part of a 31-player case in which a temporary injunction provided a fifth year of eligibility.
Stillwell and Atwell have separate cases seeking another season. Atwell made 45.8% of his 3-point attempts on a career-best 8.4 attempts per game last season and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition. Texas Tech held its first official practice for the 2026-27 season Tuesday.
McCasland said the roster was built around athleticism, competitiveness and experience, along with a shared commitment to winning. He said the program will proceed with whichever players are eligible and believes the team can manage roster changes.
