The Houston Texans have made roster changes after injuries occurred in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list due to a knee injury that will end his season, as confirmed by an MRI.
Rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger has also been added to injured reserve because of an ankle injury that he sustained towards the end of the game.
Mertz's injury took place just before halftime, compounding the Texans' injury challenges as they had already been dealing with several other injuries. Pitsenberger's injury further complicates the team's situation as they prepare for the remainder of the preseason.
Additionally, the Texans' injury report includes several players, including Ja'Marcus Ingram with a shoulder injury, Collin Wright dealing with a soft tissue strain, and Jake Hansen facing an ankle issue. Despite these setbacks, the Texans have managed to keep their starting lineup mostly unchanged, apart from linebacker E.J. Speed, who had a prior injury from offseason activities.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his staff are expected to closely assess their options for roster adjustments as training camp progresses. Further updates on roster moves are anticipated as the team evaluates the impact of these injuries on their upcoming games.
