Dare Ogunbowale is returning to the Houston Texans before Week 4, bringing the team’s running back total to four as Houston prepares to host the Dallas Cowboys. Ogunbowale was with the Texans from 2022 through 2025 before making a short stop with the Las Vegas Raiders.
During more than 60 games for Houston, Ogunbowale had 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns. His primary duties were on special teams, where he logged more than 1,000 snaps across his four previous seasons with the club. He was also a team captain last season, and coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him, according to the report.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most of the offense’s running back work. British Brooks may still be listed ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly rotation, so the veteran is not expected to quickly alter Houston’s main offensive choices. Sports Illustrated described the signing as adding experience for leadership and special-teams duties, even with a limited offensive role.
The report did not identify a reason for the move. It could relate to a possible injury in the group, although Week 4 injury details were not expected until after Wednesday’s practice, or Houston may have sought an experienced reserve who can help on special teams.
