The Houston Texans have received encouraging news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is projected to miss a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information follows an injury scare that occurred during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while Smith's injury raises concerns, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a lengthy absence. Smith was signed by the Texans in the offseason to a two-year, $20 million contract, with the expectation of stepping into the starting right tackle role. However, his injury adds to the uncertainty of the team’s offensive line.
ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that Smith might be out for a few weeks, which is a preferable outcome compared to more serious injuries. The Texans may not need to rush his return, as former Pro Bowl player Trent Brown is currently filling the right tackle position, and Blake Fisher has shown promise this preseason.
Further updates on Smith's condition and the offensive line will be provided as the season nears.
