TCU Athletics has restored media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, concluding a dispute that began after the newspaper reported on a locker room incident involving safety Jacob Fields. The university announced the resolution on September 4, stating that constructive discussions had taken place to address the issues between both parties.
The conflict arose from a report by Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson, published on August 18, detailing tensions in the locker room and alleging a lack of intervention from coaches. Following this report, TCU revoked the newspaper's media access, citing threats made against sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who was involved in the incident.
Ezukanma later identified himself in a social media video, alleging that Fields punched him, resulting in serious injuries.
Fields was dismissed from the team and faced legal consequences, including charges of aggravated assault. He turned himself in to Tarrant County police on August 30 and was released after posting a bond. During the credential revocation, Johnson covered TCU's season opener from the stands in Dublin, Ireland, rather than from the press box.
