A recent ruling from a Dallas court has allowed 18 college football players, including Ahmaad Moses from SMU, to return for an additional year of eligibility in the 2026 season. This decision, made just before the college football season begins, follows the Wisne v. NCAA ruling from July 31, which had initially permitted athletes who graduated high school in 2022 to extend their eligibility.
The NCAA's appeal of that ruling has been temporarily halted by this injunction.
Ahmaad Moses, a First Team All-ACC selection in 2025, has played 54 games and started 19 during his time with the Mustangs. He played a key role in SMU’s achievements, including a conference title in 2023 and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Last season, he led the team with 104 tackles and five interceptions, alongside 5.5 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries.
Moses's notable performance against Miami (FL) included a career-high 15 tackles and two interceptions, contributing to an overtime win. After declaring for the NFL Draft post-2025 season, he encountered a setback due to a herniated disk, which required spinal fusion surgery. This injury has allowed him to qualify for the return under the new eligibility rules.
He is currently participating in fall camp and is expected to play in the Mustangs’ season opener against Florida State on September 7, barring any NCAA appeal. Other players included in the TRO are Jordan Hudson (SMU, WR) and D’Mon Brinson (UConn, CB).
