Kevin Jennings, the quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is expected to participate in the upcoming season opener versus the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he suffered a finger injury earlier this month when he accidentally caught it in a locker room door during fall camp.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, stating that the redshirt senior has resumed throwing without any pain. Lashlee mentioned that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to prepare for the game, with the goal of him being fully ready by kickoff.

Lashlee provided an update on Jennings' progress, saying that things are going well and they are integrating him back into practice this week. Reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed that Jennings has started throwing again as he moves closer to returning.

The injury was not deemed serious, and Jennings' presence is considered crucial for SMU's performance this season. Last year, he recorded impressive stats, including 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for improvement as he prepares for the new season.
