Jacob Fields has been removed from the TCU football team, just under two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a physical altercation that reportedly occurred in the locker room on August 13, as recorded in the TCU crime and fire log.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident was characterized as an aggravated assault. Sources revealed that Fields was engaged in a confrontation with an offensive teammate and had previously experienced hostility from other players, including insults and threats, with some instances involving being spat on.

Before the altercation, Fields had sought assistance from the coaching staff on several occasions regarding the rising tensions but did not receive any feedback. He had joined TCU from Louisiana Tech earlier this year and was anticipated to start at free safety for the Horned Frogs.

In 2025, Fields earned the title of Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, having participated in all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He led the team with 92 tackles and made three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Additionally, he recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season.

Details surrounding the incident and its consequences have yet to be disclosed.
