As the Dallas Cowboys near the end of their training camp in Oxnard, they are focusing on backup center options due to a significant injury. Veteran Matt Hennessy, initially expected to step in if starter Cooper Beebe faced issues, has been placed on season-ending injured reserve with a neck injury, leaving a gap in the offensive line's depth.

T.J. Bass is currently seen as the primary candidate for the backup center role, despite his limited experience at that position. Bass, who has primarily played guard, has started 10 games over the past three seasons and was offered a second-round tender this offseason, ensuring a salary of $5.76 million.

In the first preseason game, he started at center for two series before being replaced by Nick Leverett, a veteran who has experience at guard and one career start at center.

After the preseason game, Leverett was noted working as the backup center, while Bass returned to guard during practice. The Cowboys are considering Leverett as a potential option for backup center as they look to solidify their offensive line depth. With Beebe's injury history, having a reliable backup center is essential.

Currently, Bass is the leading candidate, but Leverett's performance may affect the final decision in the coming weeks.
