Houston has raised the maximum value of Trent Brown’s 2026 playtime incentives from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti reported the revised terms Sept. 16 in a post on X.
The updated contract provides a $500,000 bonus at each of five playing-time levels: 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Troy Chapman of Over The Cap previously reported that the added incentives did not change Brown’s salary-cap charge or initial cash flow, because they were added to the original package.
Houston re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason on a one-year, $5.5 million deal. He opened seven regular-season games and one playoff game for the Texans in 2025, with injuries affecting the start and finish of his season. Houston later gave Braden Smith a two-year, $20 million contract, but injuries sent Smith to injured reserve, and he did not become the starter.
Brown stayed through the offseason program and opened Week 1 at right tackle. He has not started every regular-season game in a season since 2022, when he played for New England, where he won a Super Bowl in 2018 while Nick Caserio was an executive.
Pro Football Focus ranked Brown Houston’s sixth-best pass blocker in Week 1 and the team’s third-highest-rated offensive lineman in that category. The 2015 seventh-round pick has also played for San Francisco, Cincinnati and Las Vegas, starting 104 of 111 career games. Further details were not provided.
