The Dallas Cowboys have brought back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was released to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process but chose to return to the Cowboys despite interest from other teams for their practice squads.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys' starting quarterback, expressed his enthusiasm about Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has on the team's quarterback group. Prescott acknowledged Milton's growth during the offseason and stressed the importance of supporting him as he copes with losing the QB2 role he held throughout the 2025 season. "It means a lot.
I thought he would have been picked up in the waivers. Fortunately for us, we got a hell of a player back, and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated. He recognized that Milton might feel frustrated but emphasized the need for him to channel that into motivation for improvement.
Milton was a sixth-round selection by the New England Patriots in 2024 before being traded to the Cowboys prior to the 2025 season. His performance in the preseason demonstrated notable progress, as he completed 29 passes out of 43 attempts for 378 yards, achieving three touchdowns without any interceptions.
This performance showed a clear advancement in consistency from the previous season, where he played in four games with a completion rate of 62.5%, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. With his return to the Cowboys, Milton is focused on building on his preseason success and utilizing the competitive atmosphere to enhance his skills as a quarterback.
