Dallas reportedly signed running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that will require surgery and end his season. The change gives the Cowboys another back while Davis is unavailable, including on special teams, where Davis had played 304 snaps over the previous two seasons.
Goodson spent three seasons with Indianapolis and appeared in 33 games. He ran 54 times for 264 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In Dallas’ game against the Giants, Emari Demercado handled the second running back role and gained 7 yards on two carries. Javonte Williams had 12 of the Cowboys’ 18 rushing attempts, along with five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Green Bay first signed Goodson as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but released him before he joined the Colts. After Indianapolis released him, he attended Atlanta’s training camp, was cut and cleared waivers, then returned to the Falcons’ practice squad before Dallas signed him. Goodson, 25, is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds.
At Iowa, he finished his final season with 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns, earned All-Big Ten recognition and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds. Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and his status after Goodson’s arrival was unclear.
