Israel Abanikanda is no longer on the Dallas Cowboys roster, with Tyler Goodson joining the team from the Atlanta Falcons. The change came after Dallas produced 69 rushing yards against the New York Giants in Week 1. Abanikanda had appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets in 2023.
Before entering the NFL, Abanikanda delivered a 1,431-yard season at Pitt in 2022. He had 239 carries and scored 20 touchdowns that year. He did not secure a consistent place in an NFL backfield before Dallas made the roster move.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York's defensive front affected the running attack early. Dallas, he said, allowed too much penetration and was beaten physically at the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer also said Javonte Williams struggled to locate running room in the opening portion of the game, while the Cowboys adjusted following halftime. The report came from sports.yahoo.com.
