The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade sending offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans. In return, the Cowboys will receive a seventh-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Nate Thomas, who is 25 years old, was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft from Louisiana. After spending his first season on injured reserve, he played in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting in four. While primarily positioned as a left tackle, he has also served as a swing tackle throughout his career.
During the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that Thomas would compete with teammate Tyler Guyton for the left tackle role. However, as training camp continued, Schottenheimer observed that Guyton would stay with the first-team offense due to Thomas's inconsistent performance.
The Cowboys have also strengthened their offensive line by bringing in Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is capable of playing both left and right tackle. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones stated that the team has a plan for managing their offensive tackle situation as the roster cutdown deadline approaches.
