The Houston Texans have signed Chris Braswell, the 57th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, to their practice squad. This addition aims to strengthen their pass-rushing capabilities as injuries have affected their defensive depth. Braswell, a former second-round selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released during the final roster cuts on August 30, 2026.

In his two seasons with the Buccaneers, Braswell participated in 34 games, accumulating 48 tackles and 2.5 sacks, though he did not secure a starting position. The Texans view Braswell as a player with potential who can be developed rather than an immediate starter.

His final collegiate season at Alabama highlighted his skills, where he recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for loss, showcasing the talent that led to his draft selection.

In Houston, Braswell will focus on specific roles, such as edge-setting and quarterback pursuit, while established players handle more complex responsibilities. His previous experience with Will Anderson, a former Alabama teammate, may facilitate his integration into the Texans' defensive scheme. With injuries affecting players like Dylan Horton and Ali Gaye, Braswell's signing could provide essential support during the season.
