Von Miller has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, marking a significant move as the team revamps its defense. The Cowboys are integrating around six new starters along with a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 with the Washington Commanders, is expected to leverage his extensive experience in Dallas.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed trust in Miller's skills, highlighting his sharp football intelligence and quick speed. Schottenheimer indicated that while Miller may not participate in every play, his involvement is anticipated to boost the team's defensive capabilities. "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer noted, praising Miller's strategic understanding and diverse skill set.
In the previous season, Miller played in 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and participating in 420 snaps, which represented 37 percent of the team's defensive plays. In Dallas, he is likely to have a similar role, contributing during crucial moments like third downs.
Miller's career achievements include being the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M and receiving the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year accolade in his debut season. He has won Super Bowl MVP honors and claimed two Super Bowl championships, one with the Denver Broncos and another with the Los Angeles Rams.
Currently, he ranks as the active leader in career sacks with a total of 138.5 and is tied with Cowboys icon DeMarcus Ware for 13th all-time, just 3.5 sacks away from entering the top 10.
