Tyler Goodson is joining the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad after a preseason in which he led the Atlanta Falcons with 92 rushing yards. He also broke a 49-yard touchdown run. Dallas waived Israel Abanikanda and added Goodson to its backfield plans after Malik Davis was injured.

Goodson’s arrival followed Dallas releasing 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue near the end of training camp. The Cowboys had fewer than 100 rushing yards in their opener against the New York Giants, including 41 yards from Javonte Williams. Dallas is preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders, with Goodson being kept as additional roster depth.

A source said his opportunity to play appears limited.

During three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Goodson gained 264 yards and scored one touchdown on 54 carries. He also made 19 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. Falcons running back Bijan Robinson told Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa that Goodson is an elite player with the ability to cut across the field, catch passes and fill several offensive roles.

Robinson said he had wanted Goodson to stay in Atlanta.
