Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway has been cleared by the team’s medical staff to return against Colorado in the Big 12 opener. He has been sidelined since Sept. 5 with an ankle injury, after coach Dave Aranda forecast earlier in the week that Lagway could play. The teams entered the matchup with matching 2-1 records.
Nate Bennett will again serve as Baylor’s backup after making two starts. In those games, he completed 75% of his throws for 567 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 15 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jadon Porter, defensive back Devin Turner and defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler are also available. Baylor’s inactive list includes safety Jacob Redding, cornerback Jamarion Richardson, defensive lineman Devonte Tezino, offensive lineman Cayden Tone and wide receiver Ashton Jones.
Colorado has six players ruled out: wide receiver Danny Scudero, cornerback Preston Ashley, linebacker Colby Johnson, defensive lineman Vili Taufatofua, offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter and tight end Charlie Williams. Scudero and Williams have totaled 94 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown this season. Offensive lineman Xavier Payne remains a game-time decision.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. Central at McLane Stadium in Waco and will air on ESPN2, with Lowell Galindo and Kirk Morrison scheduled to broadcast. SI.com published the report.
