Republican nominee Paxton, who previously served as the state's attorney general, released his plan called Protecting the Texas Promise. This plan includes various federal tax deductions, such as a $25,000 deduction for out-of-pocket medical expenses and health insurance premiums, along with additional deductions for first-time homebuyers and healthy lifestyle spending.
Democratic nominee Talarico, a state representative, countered with his New American Dream plan. His approach focuses on wage increases, debt cancellation, and repealing tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. Talarico's plan includes proposals for universal childcare, raising the minimum wage, and creating a fund from artificial intelligence company revenues to benefit Americans.
As the candidates present their visions, polling averages indicate Talarico is currently leading Paxton by 1.6 percentage points. Both candidates' proposals require congressional approval and lack full cost estimates.
