Plans for an Islamic center located between Celina and Pilot Point have drawn significant attention from local residents, though the project's status remains uncertain. The controversy began when an administrator of the popular Celina Shenanigans Facebook page shared a link to celinamasjid.org, which listed details about the proposed facility.
The website identified the project as the Masjid and Islamic Centers in Celina & Pilot Point TX. Although the address provided was 17444 West Farm-to-Market 455 within city limits, the site noted that the location is actually outside those boundaries and would fall under Collin County jurisdiction.
The site indicated that organizers have been fundraising and using a temporary prayer space in nearby Pilot Point while pursuing the initiative.
Following hundreds of disapproving comments from community members, the website administrators removed all project information. The page was replaced with an image of the U.S. Constitution and the phrase "United we stand, divided we fall." The site owners did not respond to requests for comment by the time of publication.
Records show the domain has been active since at least May 2024, but no permitting information is available in the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation database.
Brittany Hunnicutt, a resident who moved to Celina in March, was among those who commented on the post. She urged concerned women to contact her directly and mentioned that a new Republican women’s club in the area would discuss the issue.
