Star Local Media has named Celina volleyball junior Morgan Terry its Athlete of the Week, recognizing her performance during a strong stretch of District 9-5A play. The Lady Bobcats defeated Lovejoy on September 8 and then beat Anna in four sets on Friday, marking Anna’s sixth loss of the season.

Terry, the team’s top blocker, recorded 14 total blocks across those two matches. She posted eight kills and eight blocks while hitting .583 in the 3-1 win over Lovejoy, followed by six additional blocks in the victory over Anna. For the season, Terry leads Celina with 59 blocks, averaging 2.3 per match, while also contributing 77 kills and 25 digs.

Her efforts have helped the team build a 5-1 record in district play and secure a five-game winning streak that moved them into second place in the district.

In an interview, Terry attributed the team’s recent improvement to better cohesion and trust among players. She noted that the group has become more focused on their shared goals. Regarding her blocking success, Terry explained that she has been working on her timing and discipline at the net, which has boosted her confidence.

She also credited her pin hitters for communicating effectively to ensure she was positioned correctly.

Terry, who has played volleyball since age six, said she joined the sport after classmates invited her to their team. She cited her coaches, family, and teammates as key influences in her development, noting that they have pushed her to grow as both a player and a teammate.

When asked about a personal trait, Terry described herself as an "undercover jokester" who enjoys making people laugh.

Other nominees for the award included Prosper football’s Tyler Albert, Lovejoy football’s Coleman Reaugh, and Lewisville football’s Laykon Brassfield. Albert recorded seven touchdowns in Prosper’s 49-40 win over Austin Westlake, while Reaugh caught 11 passes for 228 yards and three scores in Lovejoy’s 51-24 victory over Midlothian. Brassfield threw for six touchdowns and 330 yards in Lewisville’s 49-17 win over Denton Ryan.
